JOB PURPOSE 

  • Prepares and reviews marine operating procedures
  • Prepares and reviews planned maintenance routines on all marine equipment including fabric maintenance as well as all lifesaving and fire-fighting equipment
  • Prepares, rig move / anchor handling procedures, reviews mooring analysis report for suitability of unit to operate at the intended location
  • Will be required to undertake rig moves in the capacity of rig mover, supervise and coordinate all Marine Rig Move Operations, including directing the tow vessels
  • Assist the Barge Master / Engineer to run/ recover anchors
  • May be required to stand in as relief Barge Master and undertake the day to day operations of the rig, Materials movement, and any other operations ensuring that these are carried out safely and in accordance with all company policies

 

KEY RESPONSIBILTIES 

•    Assist the Head of Marine operations in his day-to-day duties and to stand in during times of his absence from the office.
•    Provide necessary assistance to the other departments in the Onshore Operations Support Department.
•    Aid as and when required to the Directors of Operations.
•    Maintenance of the Unit’s statutory certification required by Class and Flag and any other mandatory regulations issued by IMO etc or any other local country/authority regulatory body.
•    Assist in monitoring the status of ABS reports, conditions of class, recommendations etc advising when inspections/surveys are due and preparing accordingly.
•    Produce rig move procedures for review by the Head of Marine Operations/ Rig Manager.
•    Complete all necessary reports in a coherent, legible, comprehensive, and timely manner, highlighting any deficiencies, enhancements or lessons learnt.
•    Review the PMS system to verify that the marine PM’s are being carried out and the PMs are closed out correctly. 
•    Produce rig move/anchor handling procedures for each planned move using the provided documents in the TMS system for Rig Moves. 
•    Liaise with the Lead Engineer - Cranes & Lifting regarding third party contractors performing the 6mth Lifting Gear Inspections, consistent with company and contractual requirements
•    Review the Stability calculations of the various units on a regular basis to ensure proper compliance with stability requirements as laid down in the Marine Operations Manual.
•    Attend all Safety and Training Courses that are deemed necessary for the position, which are either a Company or Operator requirement.
•    Attend drills and training in scenario response consistent with the Onshore Contingency and Emergency Manual requirements.
•    Periodically review all marine planned maintenance procedures to verify that they meet the requirements of the equipment on board 
•    Produce and / or review the Marine procedures in TMS and ensure that these are updated as required.
•    Undertakes audits and inspection as per company’s audit and inspection procedures. 
•    Undertake interviews for Potential Barge Engineers for future employment.

 

KEY TASKS: AS RIG MOVER 

•    To organise, direct, and control rig move operations including detailed instructions to the Tow vessels. 
•    Inspect tow vessels for suitability prior to towing operations/ rig moves 
•    Produce rig move procedures for review by the Head of Marine Operations/ Rig Manager.
•    Produce coherent legible rig move reports, highlighting any deficiencies, enhancements lessons learnt.
•    Assist the Barge Master (engineer) / OIM with day-to-day operations whilst on board the rig.
•    Train Barge Masters (engineers) in rig move operations including directing the boats during manoeuvring the rig into position.
•    Carry out rig audits covering the marine systems and personnel.
•    Verify and monitor stability conditions during the move.
•    Assist Barge Master (engineer) with the running / recovery of anchors

 

KEY TASKS: AS RELIEF BARGE MASTER (ENGINEER)

   Stand in as Barge Master (Engineer) in the event of illness or vacant position until position is permanently filled.
•    Ensure coherent legible handover notes are made for relief at the end of each hitch.
•    To ensure that all marine maintenance work onboard the rig is performed safely, and in accordance with statutory and company regulations.
•    To ensure a proper risk assessment, proper isolation under the permit to work system and toolbox talk is carried out prior to commencing any activity. Should any part of the job change, then the risk assessment must be re-visited prior to completing the task.
•    To liaise daily with department heads regarding maintenance / class work/repairs to ensure that access to equipment requiring maintenance is coordinated with the drilling operation in order to facilitate an uninterrupted drilling program.
•    Liaise with OIM/Maintenance Supervisor to plan for fabric maintenance of the rig to maintain corrosion protection.
•    Responsible for the safe and efficient transfer of bulk materials to and from the installation.
•    To ensure that all Third-Party personnel under their supervision, including Service Engineers, comply with Seadrill Safety Procedures.
•    Responsible for the maintenance and repair of all firefighting, lifesaving and safety equipment.
•    To supervise 3rd party inspection and certification of all lifting equipment on board the MODU.
•    Ensure that all equipment complies with statutory / class requirements and is maintained at all times in a safe condition or is otherwise completely withdrawn from service, including tools and instruments in their care.
•    Ensuring all personnel, under their supervision give a clear and accurate report of work status, their responsibilities and duties to their relief.
•    Communicate pertinent matters pertaining to the operation and equipment under their control to their relief at shift and crew changes.
•    Accompany representatives of class / certifying authorities on inspections of the installation as required.
•    Present / discuss practical solutions to onboard issues to the onshore support team for further review. To enhance safety, improve rig performance or comply with statutory notices. Any proposed changes will be controlled via the Seadrill Change Control Procedure
•    Feedback any proposed changes to the content of or the frequency of equipment maintenance routines to the onshore MMS team for approval/action to facilitate continuous improvement.
•    Attend, at Company base or Client premises, meetings, and additional training, as may be required

 

QUALIFICATIONS / CERTIFICATIONS:

•    HNC / ONC in Nautical Studies / Master Class 1 Certificate of Competency or equivalent recognized training courses and certification acceptable to the flag state.
•    Valid BOSIET Certificate
•    Valid Offshore Medical Certificate
•    Must be proficient in English
•    The incumbent is expected to be mobile to cover similar roles with the fleet.

•    Must have advanced knowledge of fire fighting techniques and emergency planning in relation to MOU’s/ MODU’s.

•    Must be familiar with the contents of Marine operations manuals and exhibit a basic overall knowledge of the rigs and their various operations and systems
